San Diego Young Artists Symphony Winds ‘n’ Brass     Winds ‘n’ Brass is taking new members in order to build the wind and brass sections of YAS. Director Jill Coady, instructs novice players in the Fundamentals of ensemble performance and emphasizes the joy of music. Here, students build concert awareness, etiquette, and concentration, eventually gaining the required training to audition successfully for the advanced Young Artists Symphony. Winds ‘n’ Brass contributes to YAS’s future piccolo, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, and percussion sections. We invite intermediate performers to join this fun, remarkable program!     Ms. Coady began her training at the Coady School of Music under the direction of her father, Merle G. Coady, a well-known educator, director, and performer. Her studies included all of the wind instruments, voice, theory, piano, and conducting. She eventually became the school's director and continued this as her performance practices grew. Ms. Coady graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree from San Diego State University where she studied flute with Damian Bursill-Hall. In addition to her music degree, Ms. Coady holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.     As a flutist Ms. Coady spent twenty-six years performing with groups such as the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Opera, Starlight Opera, San Diego Playgoers, the Old Globe, and La Jolla Playhouse. Other credits include performances with the San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Moscow Ballet, Joeffrey Ballet, Harlem Ballet, California Ballet, and the San Diego Ballet Company. Chamber music activities include the Orchestra of San Dieguito, the Cabrillo Chamber Orchestra, the International Chamber Players, and the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. One of Ms. Coady's favorite collaborations has been with David Burge, composer/pianist, and his premiere's of La Loteria, a ballet debuted by the San Diego Ballet, and Kensington Caper's debuted on the Kensington Chamber Music Series.     Ms. Coady is also active in the educational sector as a private teacher, section coach, clinician, and adjudicator. Beginning June of 2007 she will add to her responsibilities the position of Director of Music Ministries at La Mesa First United Methodist Church, conducting the Chancel Choir and Celebration Singers. In addition, she is working with the San Diego Young Artists Symphony as a chamber music coach and will begin directing the Winds ‘n’ Brass Ensemble in September of 2007.
