Jane Gayle Frey, Director of Suzuki Strings and Camerata Strings Jane Gayle Frey began her musical training at the age of 5 in Houston.  By the time she was 15, she was teaching, playing, and writing music professionally.  While in Houston, Jane studied with Ysaye pupil H.C. Hess and with Wayne Crouse at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. Jane holds a degree in Music Theory with a double concentration in Viola and Piano Performance from Baylor University where she was the Suzuki String Teaching Assistant to Dr. Julia Obrecht Hardie, a student of William Preucil.  Baylor also provided chamber music study with Kristin Lindlley and Mike Masters, both from the Juilliard School, violin/viola study with Daniel Guilet of the Beaux Arts Trio and Master Class performance opportunities with Dorothy Delay, Nathaniel Rosen, Sally O'Reilly, the Tokyo String Quartet and the Juilliard String Quartet.  While at Baylor, Jane also worked as a recording artists with Word Records. Graduate work includes Viola Performance and Dounis Technique study with Ellen Rose in Dallas and Viola Performance study with Jeff Irvine at the Aspen Music Festival. Ms. Frey has administrated, taught, and guest-lectured in string programs, workshops, and master classes across the United States since 1985.  She is an SAA Registered Suzuki Violin Teacher who holds an Early Childhood Credential in Suzuki Violin Pedagogy.  Master Teachers include John Kendall, Doris Preucil, and Debbie Ogden-Goolsby. As a crossover artist, Jane has been a member of the Fort Worth Symphony, Dallas Opera Orchestra and Dallas Ballet Orchestra and has performed with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, Sarah Brightman, Marilyn Horne, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Vincent Price, and Itzhak Perlman.  She has toured with Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor and Andrea Bocelli and recorded with PBS and the rock group YES. A self-professed "Mommy-Tracker", Jane has maintained her teaching, performing, and composing/arranging career while raising her three children.  She lives in La Mesa with her husband, Erik, daughter Catherine, and sons Connor and Stephen, where she maintains a private studio.  In addition to serving as YAS Staff Conductor, Jane is Professor of Viola at Point Loma Nazarene University and works as a substitute violist in the San Diego Symphony and Orchestra Nova.  She also works as a studio musician in the recording and motion picture industry in southern California.
